- The First Bitcoins Were Used to Buy Pizza
With the current value of Bitcoin sitting at $60,000, it’s hard to believe that the first Bitcoins were used to buy pizza. Bitcoin was famously used to buy pizza in what is now known as the “Bitcoin Pizza Day” incident. On May 22, 2010, a programmer named Laszlo Hanyecz made history by purchasing two pizzas for 10,000 bitcoins. This transaction is widely regarded as the first real-world transaction involving Bitcoin. Today, that purchase would be worth nearly $600 million.
